As I've said in my previous entry, my dad was just diagnosed with diabetes. At first, I didn't know how to react to it. At first, it was shock; then, distress; and then finally I just didn't know what to think, let alone do. My family has a history of diabetes. My gram I think on both sides of my family has it; my aunts; my sister I think; and now my dad. I may have it or will get it if I don't start taking real good care of myself. I watched my dad last night and today. It seems to have really hit him. He's more impatient; upset; anti-social to a point; and because he has to have a new diet plan, he's really stressed. He has to give up a lot of the food he loves or at least big portions. So I was thinking while my mum's away making hamburger patties. Why can't I show my support by giving up some foods (or larger portions of the food) along with my dad? Not only will it show my support for my dad, but it would also help me I think in a way, helping me watch what I eat, hopefully eating more healthily or something. I planning on starting tonight. It's probably going to be hard, since, being in the kind of family I'm in, I love food. (Like many people do I'm sure.) So wish me luck. I'm also starting to walk every other day. Yesterday I walked my dog for about a half hour or more and then I walked again on my own to sketch in the cemetery. (Eerie. Creepy. I know. But it's really pretty there and dispite being surrounded by the dead. let alone really peaceful.) Then today I walked my dog again for about a half hour or more. I'm planning on continuing this for both my and my dog's sake. I think my dad being diagnosed with diabetes was a real wake up call and I think it's been about time. I'm really overweight, even though I don't look it. I hope to lose about 70-80lbs within the next decade. We'll see what'll happen.
